Celebrate The Small Victories

You may have seen the catchphrase, “Celebrate the Small Victories.” This phrase has been used to talk about the struggles people face in parenting, overcoming depression, and just getting through a day. A lot of us right now are in a mental and spiritual warfare. We have so many things that we need to do and our anxiety builds when we think about if we will have enough time to get to them or not. It is often hard for us to admit that we have had a win that day. Because of that, a war is raging in our minds each and every day. Our sense of accomplishment comes only if we are able to accomplish all the big things we have to do in a day. Let me encourage you to start celebrating the small victories. These victories, no matter how small, are significant and should be acknowledged. They are able to come when we spend a little time with God. Here is an example schedule that we may find ourselves living.

  • Make a tea/coffee — Pray

  • Find 5-20 minutes to read a passage of Scripture

  • Have breakfast

  • Pray

  • Drive to work (or get to your desk at home)

  • Work

  • Eat lunch

  • Pray

  • Work / meetings / Kids stuff

  • Extracurriculars for the kids

  • Shower time

  • Make supper / Eat supper

  • Bible time with the family, spouse or by yourself

  • Pray

  • Brush teeth

  • Fall asleep

Notice all the opportunities to have small victories on that list. Also, notice all the opportunities to pray on that list. Every day is a new battle, but it is also an opportunity to have a lot of small victories. These victories are made possible with prayer or with studying God’s word. Joshua found out the hard way that if he didn’t have God going to battle with him, he would lose. If we don’t have God going to battle with us each day, we will lose.

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things.” - (Philippians 4:6-8 ESV)
